Some particulars, about myself

Some particulars, about myself : I take the world by storm and by surprise, with my paint and ink.  I have suffered from being misunderstood, but I would have suffered a hell of a lot more if I had been understood.  I'm a Dutch writer and paintress, from "Les Pays Bas", or Holland.  My paintings are mildly expressionist, and wildly provocative.  Expressionist, in both theme and composition; mildly so, for the composition is usually rather severe, as I introduce geometrical patterns into the more chaotic and dynamic charges which the canvas carries.   Wildly provocative, in that my paintings provoke a response: as much as I am myself involved in the paintings, I reckon the audience should somehow participate in their intensity, their charged content and composition.  My main interests are in philosophy and art history.   I'm particularly fond of authors who attempt to write from the other side of life, the darkness of the essential night : Kafka, Woolf and Hardy, Dostojevski, Camus and Blanchot, Plath and Poe.  My philosophical all time favourite is Friedrich Nietzsche : paradoxical as it may seem, it is a consolation to me to know his books and writings.   Nietzsche may be considered a cultural disaster and anti-hero, in that he mercilessly unmasked all the idols and comforting "truths" we hang on to; yet there is so much affirmation in the challenge his work poses.

I have been drawing since I was a child.  As a young girl I was always talking with the Big Spyder that was living in the corner of the stable on the farm.  The spider was for me a real companion-artist with its fine silky threads, with its highly gifted cobweb.  In my childness I was spinning, like the spider, a whole world on paper from out of myself.   In drawing and writing I turn the outer world into an inner creation : whatever exists out there, becomes accessible to me in its secrecy and promise, and that through writing and painting, through the rovings of ink and paint...

O that my life may always be this.  Pessoa
